Perhaps not everyone has played Dungeons & Dragons, but chances are, most everyone has heard of the game. Playing it and being familiar with the name of the game, however, are vastly different. For newcomers, it can be a bit hard to follow. It is a thinking game, that's for sure. Players inhabit and navigate a fantastical world curated by the Dungeon Master. Games can take place in towns, dungeons, or across an entire world…or even multiple worlds!

The DnD dice set is as unique as the game itself. There are typically seven dice in a set, and all but two have a different number of sides. Each die is referred to with the letter “d” (for die or dice) and a number representing the number of sides on the die. There are d4 dice which are four-sided, d6 dice which are six-sided, d8s, d10s, d12s, and the iconic d20s which are 20-sided dice. There are generally 2 d10s in a standard set. You can read more about the different types of polyhedral (multisided) dice in our blog

Players take on the role of adventuring heroes called “characters.A very brief introduction to one aspect of the game, we are going to introduce base character types (called “character classes” and then check out how to choose a unique dice set for your character.

Dungeons & Dragons Character Classes

There are 12 base character classes in the D&D 5th Edition Player’s Handbook. They are:

  • Paladin
  • Sorcerer
  • Warlock
  • Wizard
  • Rogue
  • Ranger
  • Monk
  • Fighter
  • Druid
  • Cleric
  • Bard
  • Barbarian

There are also an ever-increasing number of classes and subclasses as new publications, campaign settings, and adventures are released. However, as you can see, there is more than enough in the Player’s Handbook to get you started on the path to high adventure!

The Right Dice for the Right Character

We could simply suggest what we feel are the best dice sets for each character. But that would take all the fun out of it for you. Tabletop Roleplaying games were developed to inspire players’ imaginations and we want YOU to find an awesome DnD dice set that is not only unique, but that you feel fits your character.

Here are some tips:

  • Think about your character. Jot down between 5 and 10 words you feel applies to them. Check out your character sheet if you need information. Consider words others might use when talking about your character. Think about how you've played your game with that character or, if it’s a new character, think about what inspired you during the process of creating them.
  • Decide on your price point (prices for dice sets run the gamut) and get a picture of the dice you’d like in your mind. We specialize in metal dice sets, but as a general rule, the more intricate details a set has, the more it will cost.
  • Once again, think about your character and how you want your dice to embody them. Maybe your character is a Dwaven Battle Master who hails from the mines of the famous Dwarven Valley. In this case, you may wish to pay homage to the back story of your character with a dice set like our Theives Gold, which is reminiscent of raw golden ingots pulled straight from the mines.
  • Take a look around. Naturally, we suggest Forged Gaming! Browse though our dice collections or use our filters or search function to find exactly what you’re looking for.
